NURTURE - Open to new beginnings
“From childhood you have known the sacred writings which are able to give you the wisdom that leads to salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.” 2 Timothy 3.15
The Church is the community that springs from the new life Jesus brings. Because of this, nurturing and providing opportunities to celebrate new life is central in the life of the Church. Whether you are getting married, welcoming a new child or simply wanting to make a fresh start, the Church wants to support you.
Baptism
Baptism marks the beginning of a journey with God which continues for the rest of our lives, the first step in response to God’s love. For all involved, particularly the candidates but also parents, godparents and sponsors, it is a joyful moment when we rejoice in what God has done for us in Christ, making serious promises and declaring the faith. The wider community of the local church and friends welcome the new Christian, promising support and prayer for the future. Hearing and doing these things provides an opportunity to remember our own baptism and reflect on the progress made on that journey, which is now to be shared with a new member of the Church.
Weddings
The Church accompanies couples as they journey together towards their big day, and is there for them on all the days that come after it. Marriage is intended by God to be a creative relationship, as his blessing enables husband and wife to love and support each other in good times and in bad, and to share in the care and upbringing of children. For Christians marriage is also an invitation to share life together in the spirit of Jesus Christ. It is based upon a solemn public and life-long covenant between a man and a woman, declared and celebrated in the presence of God and before witnesses. There are many things to consider when planning a wedding. Members of our clergy team are delighted to meet with couples to discuss wedding plans and to answer questions.
Sometimes married couples wish to celebrate special anniversaries or family occasions with a special blessing, or by renewing their marriage vows. Please do get in touch if you would like to explore this further.
Funerals
A Christian funeral service is a beautiful testament to the hope we have in Jesus. In putting together a church funeral we create a formal space to help the bereaved express their grief and loss with beauty and dignity. In church we place our loved one before the cross, reconciling their life with the one who said ‘I when I am lifted up from the earth will draw all people to myself’. Through the cross we know that God is not only present with us in our joys, but also with us in our pain, grief and sufferings too. When someone has been ill the awareness that God understands human suffering can be a great comfort.

Pastoral Care
Everyone is on a journey in life, but thankfully we do not have to travel alone. St Paul writes ‘share one another’s burdens and in this way you will fulfil the law of Christ.’ The Church is a pilgrim people journeying together, and we want to be alongside you where you are in every situation of need. We are able to offer pastoral ministry to the sick, elderly, and dying. We are also able to offer blessings for homes as well as memorial masses for the anniversaries of departed loved ones, and thanksgivings for celebrations.
